Team Pink Lady® At 23:17 on 5th May 2005 the Pink Lady® PoleCats became the first all-women team ever to complete The Scott Dunn Polar Challenge, a gruelling 368-mile race from Polaris Mine in the Canadian Nunavut Territory across constantly-shifting sea ice to the Magnetic North Pole. Hauling sledges weighing almost twice their body weight, Team Pink Lady® endured temperatures as low as -40°C and passed through hazardous polar bear territory in their aim to succeed where previous all-women teams had failed. Competing against 16 other male and mixed teams the Pink Lady® PoleCats crossed the finishing line in an astounding 6th place. Team Diary Monday 27th June 2005 Closure Many thanks to everyone who came along to our presentation on Thursday evening at the Royal Geographical Society. We actually felt more nervous speaking infront of people we know than we do speaking infront of strangers! But it was great to finally be able to share our stories with you and to relive some of our experiences. Matt from Team Dafur stood to say a few words at the end which made our evening. I know you promised to heckle Matt but you almost had me in tears - I think making the speakers cry is going a bit far! It was the first time that we had got everyone together to celebrate properly. As I wondered home from the pub later that evening I had a terrible thought - does this mean that the adventure is really over? By the time I reached the station I had my answer. Don't be daft - this is only the beginning! The Pink Lady® PoleCats |
